Meet the Team

 

Daniel Wells

BS OE’ 12

Daniel Wells is graduating from FAU with a BS in Ocean engineering. He plans to explore a career in the energy sector and further his education with a MBA. He enjoys scuba diving, riding horses, and cooking.

 

Emilia Kawashima

BS OE ’12

Emilia Kawashima (aka “Asian fusion”) is a member of the AUVSI team involved in the propulsion and auxiliary systems. She will be continuing her graduate studies in the fall at FAU with a concentration in Hydrodynamics and Acoustics. On the weekends, she teaches ballet classes for children.

 

Mario Miranda

BS OE’ 12

Mario has led the systems integration and design architecture of the command and control system for the new vehicle. His work ethics and passion for embedded systems provide a plethora of essentials that are needed for the team. He plans to continue his studies in underwater networks and integrated systems used for collaborative activities by pursuing his Ph.D. starting in Fall ‘12.

Heather Dupuis

BS OE ’12

Heather Dupuis is a member of the Hull and Auxiliary teams and has been thoroughly involved in the mechanical design and construction of V-BASS. Her interests include hydrodynamics, renewable energy, AUVs and ROVs. On her spare time, she enjoys line dancing and also baking cookies, sometimes sharing them with the team.

 

Matthew Bradley

BS OE’ 12

Matthew Bradley is a hard worker and fills a very responsible part of our team in being a part of designing the vision system. He was born and raised in Florida and enjoys spending time around the water. Autonomous surface and underwater vehicles fill the majority of his academic interests.

 

Valeria Casas

BS OE ’12

As an Ocean Engineering undergraduate Senior, Val is a part of the vision system team and in charge of the image processing software. General interests include: Underwater Robotics (AUVs and ROVs), Control Systems,Underwater Instrumentation, Renewable Energy, and Ship and Marine Transport Design and Manufacture.

Erkin Ulku

BS OE ’12, BS Management  ‘13

Erkin was part of the hull and power subgroups and also helped assist with the overall design of the VBASS.  He is also involved in other projects including writing business plans for startup companies and engineering and designing new products. In his spare time, Erkin tunes and modifies custom cars.


Nicholas C. Chong

BS OE ‘12

Nick was part of the hull, power, and vision subgroups for the VBASS. Nick currently overseas the production line of his family’s business and assists with quality control processes. In his spare time, Nick enjoys photography, fishing, hunting, mountain biking, and modifying cars.

Jose Alvarez

MS OE ’11

With a strong passion to make things work, Jose works diligently as a contributor to the autonomous system design. His optimism and determination allow him to continue working incessantly until he sees water vehicles moving.

 

 

Armando José Sinisterra

PhD ‘14

With a compelling obsession to overcome challenges, Armando works meticulously in the developing of control systems for autonomous vehicles. His will power permits him to work day and night until he achieves his ambitions.

 

 

John Grimes

BS OE ’12

John Grimes is a Masters Student, graduating in Summer 2013.  After graduation, he will be moving to the Boston area to begin working in the field of Autonomous Systems.  In addition to his educational background, he is also a Second Degree Priest in the Correllian Nativist Tradition of Wicca.
